TrailRunner mini — GPX Editor App Reviews

13 Customer Reviews:

crashes a lot since the latest update unfortunately…you cant zoom in smoothly anylonger…thats a pitty…and if you zoom a bit to much then you cant see anything… usually this app is great, support seems to be fine too…there are certain updates from time to time, so I really hope the developer gets the lates problems done pretty quick… no internet-connection available since the update either… why no option to disable the information for weight, burned calories and such…this data doesnt make sense from the first pin to the last one…how can it calculate burned calories…because it knows my weight and the distance…!? thats ridiculous…so I have to type in the real data from my watch…why bother at first place…please include the option to disable this…!! I will grade this app with five stars if all this things are done…just saying that Im satisfied if these things are included or solved...

The August 2012 release had a flaw that caused it to crash. Berbie has confirmed he is working on a fix, to be released shortly. Until then, the system may or may not work, not sure if the flaw was an OS issue or something else. However, once fixed, I must say this is the best mapping app I have used - and once it failed and I spent an afternoon trying to find another equivalent app, I realized how much I liked TRM. Simple way to trace and create maps - it is a bit bulky in how it loads map data at smaller scales, but works extremely well. Unless Im missing a few apps, I have tried as many of the affordable ones I could, including the giants online free sources, and find this to be the best. Company service was quick and prompt, although it seems to be a fairly small operation, Berbie seemed concerned to get it right as soon as he could. Now lets hope the update comes soon. 5 starts once that is dealt with.

Trailrunner mini

Use it all the time, I don’t know what I would do without it. Loads of fun to map out new routes.

Ive been looking for an application like this, so I was excited to see it on the App Store. The problem is that the mapping is TERRIBLE. I tried mapping out a path I took this past week. I placed the first pin - worked fine. Place the second pin - it tried, VERY unsuccessfully, to figure out where I went on my workout. Its fine that it tried to figure out my path, but I couldnt fix it when it was completely off base. It wouldnt allow me to no matter what I tried. I tried deleting and placing te pin again, and it still tried to route me really incorrectly. If the mapping were to actually work, it would be a great app...but for now I would avoid spending $20 on this app. Its really not worth it.

Crashes

Just spent $19.99 for this app and before I can even add the first route it crashes. This is a rip-off.

I loved the full version TrailRunner, but this version is not complete. First, its painfully slow to download map tiles. Second, the most common action I can think of, tapping and dragging to move the map around, doesnt work in a natural and intuitive manner. You must click, hold, wait a second, and then you can drag the map. This becomes infuriating after a couple of times. I dont mind supporting Mr. Berberich but at this price I had expected a bit more.

This app is very easy to use, well worth the money. I have tried to use web sites that offer similar services but they never work very well. This app is great!!!!

This is the app I have been looking for. Allows me plot a specific route and transfer to my iPhone. Only suggestion I would make is to add tags for turn by turn directions. That would make it 5 stars. Money well spent. Obviously earlier poor reviews were for early version. New version is great. Danke Heir Berberich.

Was excited to see the app recently updated and improved (v1.7)! Choosing between multiple maps was a fantastic addition! I keep wanting to utilize this app more, but theres several factors that keep leading me elsewhere: - SLOW!!! Loading maps takes forever. Would like option to download certain plots locally for offline use. - A new .gpx file is created every time an existing map is edited. - If you delete a map within the app it DOES NOT also delete the file in Finder, then duplicates appear upon reopen. - Would like to be able to sort/filter the existing map view by name, date created, date modified

This version of Trailrunner Mini is unusable. It crashes constantly and is extremely slow. I dont know if the concept is good because I could never get it to do anything.

Ive been using trailrunner mini for about 1 year now and it has grown to be an essential part of my fitness lifestyle. During my marathon training I used it on a daily basis for mapping daily courses, ensuring that I get my planned milage. Now I use it to plot morning running routes to get the most of my PT time before work, making sure Im not going out too far and be late to the office. Great tool that I could not live without!

I’m echoing the comments of other Trail Runner Mini users: the concept and design of the app are both great. Unfortunately, running and using the app is a chore because it is unstable and finicky. It can take so long to load maps and routes that I often resort to using plain old Google Maps in a web browser. I definitely do not recommend this app until the developers fix the basic user-interface issues and the app’s general stability.

great app, awesome on iMac

I train using an old Garmin 305. Garmin Training Center software has not been updated in many years, and no longer works on modern macOS's. So I use an old macOS 10.12 Sierra virtual machine to download my training data from my 305 (using the last version Garmin Training Center), then I export the data as .TCX or .GPX files, which I then import to Trail Runner mini on my modern iMac (2020, running Big Sur 11.7.8), and, voila, all my routes immediately appear on beautifully detailed, interactive maps, along with elevation profile. If you're as old school as all this, I would highly recommend Berbie's app as a way to continue using your favorite old Garmin.

Tracks all my running routes

This is probably the best Mac-based running route app. I use the iOS iSmoothRun on iphone for actually running and export runs to Trailrunner mini via Dropbox. It's nice to see my routes on a bigscreen vs just on my iphone. The app did hang a couple of times when I tried to import a large number (200-300) of my past exported runs. I did import them successfuly by reducing the number of imports at one time. I wanted an app that allowed me to export all my run data and Trailrunner mini does this—a hard requirement for me. I refuse to use other apps that lock your data in and prevent you from exporting it. I've been bitten too many times when many apps eventually stop being supported and you lose your data. The subscription cost is well worth having a good app. Developers need to support themselves too, I don't understand how others can complain that developers should give away their hardwork for free. :–((

Very useful app

I find the mapping great - it enables me to see my runs and cycle routes on a big screen.

How do you cancel the subscription?

Evidently, a subscription begins when you download the app. However, there is not a way to cancel the subscription.

Useful tool...

I use TRm to plan and document hikes and it is capable in this regard. Developer regularly improves/maintains app, and has been resposive to my inquiries. Recommended.

Not free and doesn't work well

Although this is listed as Free, it's not. I was able to load one gpx file and try to use it. It was super awkward and kept changing my view. Then I had to restart my computer. Now when I load it, I either have to pay for a subscription or quit it.

Great app for bike trips

I find this app is almost perfect for planning a long bike trip. I can import other people's routes, adjust them, while it tells me distances and elevations along the way. It's snaps to roads easily and intuatively. But it's one flaw is that the route must go along a known road or major path. Which would be really annoying for runners and mountain bikers who make their own paths.

Subscription

Posts on App Store as free and then requires a subscription to use. RIP OFF

Mk Not Buying It · 7 years ago

Not worth a subscription

I didnt’t like that this was a subscription, but thought I’d try it anyway. I just wasted an hour and still couldn’t find the trails I was looking for. It’s hard to read and hard to use. Not user friendly. AND, I can’t seem to find a way to cancel my subscription.
